Mythology #1

Dwaraka villagers have a ritual of doing annual pujas and offerings to Lord Indra for rain.  Once Lord Krishna sees these preparations and questions his father Nanda and the villagers one needs to do their dharma than doing all these offerings to Lord Indra.  Their dharma/duty is farming and protection of cattle and not conducting sacrifices for natural phenomena like rain.  The villagers were convinced by Krishna and did not proceed with the special pujas.  The angered Indra floods the village.  Krishna then lifted Mt.Govardhan and held it up as protection for his people and cattle from cattle.  Indra accepts the defeat and recognizes Krishna as supreme.

The diety of Jyeshta Nakshatra is Lord Indra- the first among Gods.  The highest purpose of Jyestha natives is to protect their family and surroundings.  They should be careful not to create their problems just like Indra did because of ego. The whole story of Indra is his thirst for being respected, jealousy, and power.

Mythology #2

Chandra, the moon god married 27 daughters of Daksha Prajapati.  Chandra promises Daksha that he will take care of all his wives with equal attention.  Instead, he starts giving a lot of attention and affection to Rohini, as she is a beautiful, skilled musician and dancer. Chandra’s preference angered all the other wives and they visit their elder sister Jyeshta for a solution.  Angered Jyeshta advises Chandra to give equal time to all the sisters and how to be a good husband.  Jyeshta then advised Moon to spend one day with each of his wives.  However again Moon starts ignoring his wives.  Then all his rest 26 wives approach their father Daksha for a solution.  Angered Daksha curses Chandra that he will lose all his charm and will suffer from a deadly disease.  Upon this, Chandra got sick day by day.  Worried about his condition Chandra approaches lord Shiva for help.  Shiva says that he cannot reverse the curse, instead he places the crescent form of Chandra on his forehead.  This helped Chandra to regain all his power and strength back.
