Mythology #1

Daksha Prajapati organized a yagna for which all the Gods were invited except for Lord Shiva and his wife Sati.  One of the reasons behind it was that Sati, the daughter of Dakhsa married Shiva without the consent of her father.  Sati, despite not being called for the yagna, goes to attend the yagna.  Daksha humiliates Sati and her husband Shiva in front of everyone.  Insulted and infuriated Sati jumps in the pyre lit for performing the yagna and dies.  Coming to know of this Shiva becomes very angry and he sends Mahakali, Veerabhadra and Kaala Bhairva  to destruct the yagna.  In the process of destruction, Kaala Bhairava chops of the hand of “Savitur”.  Later on knowing this Shiva replaces Savitur’s chopped off arms with golden arms.  Hence, Savitur is also called “Hiranya Hasta” the one with golden hands.
