Hiranyaksha & Hiranyakashipu were brothers. During Varaha avatara of lord Vishnu he kills Hiranyaksha. To take revenge on Lord Vishnu Hiranyakashipu do severe penance and attains a boon from Lord Brahma that he would not die either on earth or in space, nor in fire, nor in water, neither during the day nor during night, neither inside or outside of a home, neither by human nor by animal or god, neither by an inanimate or animate being. With virtually no fear of death, Hiranyakashipu unleashes terror. He declares himself as god and asks people not to utter god’s name except his. However, his son Prahlada, who is a devotee of Lord Vishnu refuses his father’s advice. Hiranyakashipu repeatedly pressurizes Prahlada to forget Lord Vishnu, but Prahlada does not heed and declares the omnipresence of lord Vishnu.
One day Hiranyakashipu points to a pillar and asks if Vishnu is present in it. Prahlada says yes!! To this his father becomes furious and draws his sword and cuts the pillar. Narasimha (Avatar of Vishnu) appears out of the broken pillar. Narasimha (being a man-lion god form) kills Hiranyakashipu. He kills at the twilight (neither day nor night), on the doorstep of Hiranyakashipu’s place (neither inside nor outside), uses his nails to kill (neither animate nor inanimate), puts him on his lap before killing (neither earth nor in the space). This making the power of boon ineffective. Prahlada’s episode proves that God will always come to the rescue of his devotees who prays him with sincere devotion.
